NICAST focuses on developing innovative wound dressings using electrospun polymer nano-fabrics. The technology allows for tailored dressings that can be applied in situ, aiming to improve healing times and reduce healthcare costs for patients with chronic wounds.
Wound management is a major clinical and economic problem.
In 2010, public spending on healthcare accounted for almost 15% of all government expenditure in Europe.
