WorkFREE explores the impact of unconditional cash transfers on individuals engaged in exploitative labor in Hyderabad, India. By providing financial support, the project aims to assess improvements in work conditions and contribute to discussions on social justice and labor rights.
WorkFREE builds on the widespread empirical observation that everywhere people who are stuck in indecent, exploitative or ‘unfree’ work nevertheless choose that work because doing so represents their best available option, and asks a simple yet potentially revolutionary question:
