WOODSTOC aims to develop innovative nanocomposites to preserve stone and wood cultural heritage objects. By enhancing durability and providing antimicrobial protection, the project addresses the deterioration of these materials exacerbated by climate change.
Cultural heritage (CH) is highly valued by 84% of European citizens as it reflects both national and European identities, contributing significantly to the economy through tourism, cultural and preservation activities.
However, stone and wood objects of CH value can suffer from severe deterioration, mostly decohesion and biodeterioration, which are predicted to be worsened by climate change.
