This research examines how expressions of suffering in conflict zones, particularly in the context of the Kurdish-Turkish conflict, are shaped by social narratives. It aims to understand the impact of these narratives on individual and community experiences of violence and trauma.
Most people living in conflict areas have experienced armed incidents, poverty, displacement, as well as witnessed torture and killings.
However, only certain forms of suffering are publicly acknowledged and may lead to prestige and a strengthened social position within a community, or grant political asylum in the country of refuge.
