VELOCARE investigates how urban environments affect women's mobility while escorting children, focusing on cycling as a sustainable transport option. The project aims to highlight gender disparities in care-related travel and promote inclusive urban planning that considers the emotional aspects of mobility.
Within Europe, women spend up to twice as much time on unpaid care work as men do and mobility related to care tasks represents a significant part of womens daily travel.
Escorting children tends to be unequally distributed amongst parents and they are much more likely to travel with their mothers than with their fathers.
