This project aims to develop a non-invasive ultrasound neuromodulation technique for treating refractory epilepsy. By creating a closed-loop system that detects seizures and applies targeted stimulation, it seeks to improve treatment outcomes while minimizing risks associated with current invasive methods.
Epilepsy is a common and debilitating chronic neurological disorder.
Furthermore, a large fraction of patients suffers from refractory (drug-resistant) epilepsy.
Responsive electrostimulation is a state-of-the-art treatment for refractory epilepsy but is invasive and not cell-type selective.
