UPOXARENE is an interdisciplinary project combining organic synthesis, biocatalysis, and protein engineering, to realise the elusive epoxidation of arenes in a single step using engineered unspecific peroxygenases (UPOs).
The compatibility of UPOs with organic media will be exploited to expand their chemistry beyond the aromatic hydroxylation accessible with cytochrome P450s.
