UNITE aims to advance generative information retrieval by integrating it with reinforcement learning. The project focuses on building trust in AI systems by ensuring accuracy, reliability, and resilience, while optimizing for long-term goals in information retrieval applications.
Generative information retrieval is an emerging paradigm that replaces the traditional index-then-retrieve pipeline by encoding all information about a document collection in the parameters of a model.
The retrieval task is then formalized as a sequence-to-sequence learning problem, making it possible to optimize the system end-to-end.
