This project investigates how African ungulates share information about predators using aerial video technology and computer vision. By observing natural herds and conducting field experiments, it aims to understand the dynamics of vigilance and information transfer among animals in their natural habitats.
One benefit of sociality in animals is collective predator detection, which provides early warning of threats and enables more effective escape responses.
For collective detection to occur, information regarding the presence of predators must be transferred from knowledgeable to naïve individuals.
