This project aims to enhance understanding of the immune response to HIV by analyzing the interactions between the virus and CD8 T cells during acute infection. It seeks to inform the design of vaccines that elicit effective T cell responses to combat HIV.
There is an urgent need to develop effective prophylactic and therapeutic vaccines to combat the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV)/AIDS pandemic, currently responsible for ~2 million deaths/year worldwide.
