This project investigates the changing landscape of infectious diseases in sub-Saharan Africa, focusing on the shift from malaria to viral infections. By developing a multiplex serological assay, it aims to assess long-term trends in febrile illnesses and improve disease tracking and treatment.
Enormous progress is being made in the fight against parasitic diseases such as malaria in sub-Saharan Africa, which is driving a long-term epidemiological shift in the burden of infectious diseases.
Until recently, most febrile patients presenting to rural health facilities were presumptively treated for malaria.
