This project develops a novel deep ultraviolet light source to combat antimicrobial resistance by targeting pathogens without antibiotics. It aims to create a compact, robust, and cost-effective solution for safe pathogen elimination in medical applications.
We will use a new class of deep ultraviolet light source to address the biggest challenge facing modern medicine: the emergence of antimicrobial resistance (AMR): the resistance of bacteria (so-called “super bugs”) to anti-biotics. AMR is anticipated to cause 10 million deaths annually by 2050.
The golden era of antibiotics is over, and the antibiotic pipeline is failing.
