Ugypsum aims to replace traditional glass fiber strands in gypsum wallboard production with a sustainable alternative made from recycled materials. This innovation addresses the significant waste generated from glass fiber reinforced plastics, promoting environmentally friendly practices in the construction industry.
The problem:
The annual production of glass fibre reinforced plastics in Europe exceeds 1 million tonnes, which generates a large volume (~ 100.000 tonnes) of waste in the short-term through the manufacturing process – and a huge amount of end of life products in the longer term.
Despite the mounting regulatory pressure implemented through several EU directives to ban/limit the disposal of waste composites via landfilling, 98% of this waste is still dumped at European landfills.The solution:
