This project investigates the circulation patterns of upper and intermediate water masses in the Western Mediterranean, particularly around the Balearic Islands. Using advanced underwater glider data, it aims to quantify water transport and improve understanding of oceanographic properties.
The circulation of upper and intermediate (AW and WIW) water masses play a key role in the hydrodynamics of the Western Mediterranean, where these water masses flow cyclonically along the slope, exhibiting seasonal fluctuations in volume transport.
Upon reaching the Balearic sub-basin, the flow splits, with one branch moving south towards the Balearic Channels, while the other forms the north Balearic Current (BC) along the northern slope of the Balearic Islands.
