The TRIFLOW project aims to enhance the understanding of fluid flow in fractured rocks by simulating realistic crustal conditions. It investigates how three-dimensional stress influences fracture geometry and fluid movement, which is vital for safe geothermal energy production and carbon dioxide storage.
The ability to accurately predict both the magnitude and direction of fluid flow within fractured rocks is paramount for the secure injection of fluids into the subsurface—an essential operation for geothermal energy production and CO2 storage.
