This project compares the Great Depression of 1929 with the 2008 economic crisis, aiming to understand their causes and impacts on trade and policy. It will create a database to analyze the interrelationships between economic output, employment, and trade during these periods.
What are the lessons of the Great Depression for policy makers today, and what can we learn about the causes of such major economic crises by comparing the two events?
This project will create a Two Depressions database and carry out associated research, which will provide a comprehensive and explicitly comparative statistical overview of the crises of 1929 and 2008.
