This research investigates the development of sensory maps in the brain related to whisker inputs in rodents. It aims to uncover the genetic and sensory mechanisms that shape the neural circuitry responsible for tactile perception.
Somatosensory information from the physical world is accurately relayed from body surface receptors to brain cortex through topographic connectivity maps enabling to spatially locate and distinguish stimuli such as touch, temperature, proprioception (body position), and nociception (pain).
