This research investigates the Southeast Asian monsoon's variability using cave formations from Laos to reconstruct past climate conditions. It aims to understand the monsoon's long-term history and its relationship with global warming and El Niño phenomena.
Changes in Asian monsoon variability can affect more than 50% of the world population, yet our understanding of the monsoon is incomplete.
The proposed research will bring new insight into this crucial component of the Earth’s climate system while using world-class equipment and resources available at the host institution, the University of Oxford.
