This project explores the political and economic dynamics of the Islamic Empire from 660 to 940 CE. It aims to shift the understanding of the empire's functioning by focusing on regional governance and the roles of local elites.
This ambitious aim is to understand the political and economic workings of a pre-modern empire, the Islamic Empire (660 - 940 CE), which stretches over almost the entire Hellenistic-Roman world from the Atlantic to the Hindukush.
