This project aims to establish a network of laboratories for biological dosimetry to prepare for large-scale radiological incidents. It focuses on creating a framework for collaboration among European laboratories to enhance emergency response capabilities.
In recent years a number of accidents have occurred that show the necessity to be prepared for a possible large-scale radiological accident or a terrorist attack, where the casualties will be members of the public.
The accident may likely have an international scale and the radiation exposure can range from very low to substantial.
An important initial step in the medical response to large-scale radiological accident is the triage of patients according to the severity of exposure.
