This project develops a new imaging model to study dopamine overactivity in the brain, which is linked to schizophrenia. It aims to evaluate the effectiveness of novel antipsychotic drugs targeting a specific receptor, potentially leading to better treatment options for patients with psychotic disorders.
My research plan aims at generating an innovative chemogenetic/positron emission tomography (PET) imaging translational model of striatal dopamine (DA) over-reactivity, the most well-established pathophysiological mechanism underlying schizophrenia. I will use this platform to test the therapeutic efficacy of antipsychotic compounds with a totally new mechanism of action, i.e. targeting the trace amine-associated receptor 1 (TAAR1).
