SynProtect investigates the molecular mechanisms of brain resilience related to sleep and stress adaptation. The project aims to understand how specific plasticity in brain cells can enhance resilience against sleep deprivation and neurodegeneration.
Resilience designates the ability of the brain to cope with and adapt to stressful situations.
Sleep homeostasis is tightly linked to resilience, and the sleep deficits observed alongside neurodegeneration probably operate as direct drivers of neurodegeneration.
