This project explores how plants defend against viruses by producing small interfering RNAs and how viruses counteract this defense. It aims to identify mechanisms of viral suppression and develop strategies to combat rice tungro disease caused by specific viruses.
Plants defend themselves against viruses by generating virus-derived small interfering (si)RNAs and thereby silencing the viral genome.
Viruses counteract this defense by producing suppressor proteins.
