This project aims to use X-ray crystallography to reveal the high-resolution structure of eukaryotic ribosomes and their complexes, enhancing our understanding of protein synthesis in eukaryotic cells and its regulation in health and disease.
The ribosome is a large cellular organelle that plays a central role in the process of protein synthesis in all organisms.
Currently, structural information at atomic resolution exists only for bacterial ribosomes and some of their functional complexes.
Eukaryotic ribosomes are larger and significantly more complex than their bacterial counterparts.
