This project investigates how stress affects brain function, particularly focusing on the role of astrocytes, a type of glial cell. By examining the interactions between neurons and astrocytes in the prefrontal cortex and hippocampus, the research aims to understand cognitive impairments associated with chronic stress.
Stress exposure sets primarily a response to restore physiological homeostasis and promote behavioural adaptation.
However, prolonged stressful experience may trigger maladaptive responses that lead to severe manifestations such as depressive-like behaviour, learning and memory deficits.
