ALTER e-GROW investigates how three-dimensional (3D) tissues develop in multicellular organisms, focusing on brown algae as a model. The project aims to understand the physical factors influencing growth patterns and to create mathematical models that simulate these mechanisms across different species.
ALTER e-GROW aims to identify the mechanisms underlying the development of tri-dimensional (3D) tissues in multicellular organisms.
Many physical factors influence the shape of an organism growing from a single cell or a small group of cells: the direction of growth along the x, y and z axis; when and how rapidly growth occurs, and whether the region of growth is diffuse or localised.
An almost infinite number of combinations of these factors are possible.
