This project aims to understand the physics of earthquakes by studying the relationship between rock strength and strain. It will utilize advanced deformation apparatuses to investigate fault mechanics and potential earthquake precursors.
Our ability to limit the societal and economic impact of the earthquakes is strongly tied to our understanding of the physics lying behind the earthquake phenomenology.
