This project explores the genetic control of stem growth in plants, focusing on the ATH1 gene's role in regulating height and inflorescence structure. The goal is to develop precise genetic tools to enhance crop productivity while minimizing adverse effects on seed formation.
Crop yield depends in a large part on stem height and inflorescence structure.
Mutations that reduce stem growth have been used widely to improve crop yields but also have undesired side effects, for example during seed formation.
In spite of its importance, stem development is poorly understood.
