The SONOCRAFT project aims to revolutionize cardiac tissue engineering by developing a 3D printing technology that creates complex myocardial cell constructs. It combines rapid printing with ultrasonic manipulation to enhance drug testing and disease modeling.
Cardiovascular diseases are the leading cause of death globally.
Efficient drug testing and disease models are needed to reduce their death toll.
Myocardial cell constructs, e.g. spheroids, organoids, or organs on a chip, hold promise as disease models and can reduce animal testing.
Unfortunately, cell constructs often lack the natural spatial complexity of their in-vivo counterparts, and consequently the cells remain immature and non-differentiated.
