SMyle focuses on the design and testing of a Shape Memory Alloy component that can change shape through controlled deformation. The project explores different actuation methods, aiming to understand the material's behavior under various conditions and develop reliable actuation techniques for practical applications.
SMyle involves mathematical modell ing, design, fabrication and testing of a Shape Memory Alloy coupon undergoing actuated controllrd deformation.
It is envisaged that two different SM actuating principles will be pursued.
In the first approach the actuator will be embedded in the coupon in the form of an active layer whereas in the second approach the use of the so called compliant mechanisms will be investgated with the SMA wires as actuating elements.
