SMACool is developing an innovative air-conditioning system using elastocaloric technology, which employs shape memory alloys for efficient cooling. This project aims to create a sustainable alternative to conventional cooling systems, significantly improving energy efficiency and reducing environmental impact.
The project SMACool will develop a functional air-conditioning device for residential buildings, based on the emerging technology of elastocalorics, which uses (shape memory) alloys as solid-state refrigerants for efficient and sustainable cold (and heat) generation.
