This project investigates the role of sleep in synaptic plasticity using a genetically-modified fruit fly model. By manipulating and monitoring specific synapses, the research aims to clarify how sleep influences synaptic changes and the involvement of astrocytes in this process.
Although we spend a third of our lives sleeping, the function of sleep remains mysterious.
Studies considering neural networks, brain regions and behavior suggest the intriguing hypothesis that sleep is important for synaptic plasticity.
