SHIKIFACTORY100 aims to produce over 100 valuable compounds from the shikimate pathway using optimized microbial processes. The project focuses on developing new biosynthetic routes and enhancing the efficiency of production through advanced genetic and metabolic engineering.
Chemical synthesis is often difficult and may be subject to unclear mechanisms, frequently producing undesired by-products, while the complexity of some compounds may rendered them virtually unattainable.
