This project seeks to improve wastewater treatment efficiency by enhancing an existing microbial respirometer prototype. The goal is to monitor microbial activity in real-time, reducing energy costs and greenhouse gas emissions while automating processes for better operational management in wastewater treatment plants.
The aeration of activated sludge accounts for 60% of the running cost of wastewater treatment plants, a staggering 2% of all electricity generated at country-level.
