This project seeks to enhance agricultural sustainability by exploring plant-microbe interactions to reduce reliance on chemical pesticides. It aims to develop genetic tools for editing the plant microbiome, improving plant health and resilience against pests through tailored microbial communities.
Over 80% of human food relies on plants, but up to 40% of crops are lost to pests and diseases.
Chemical pesticides have boosted yields but pose health and environmental risks.
To address this, the EU aims to replace 50% of pesticides with biological solutions by 2030.
