This project focuses on preserving cultural heritage by using advanced chemical imaging techniques to analyze old paintings. It aims to improve the identification of materials in paintings to aid conservation efforts.
Our cultural heritage is our shared past and should be preserved for future generations.
In order to preserve an art object, it is not only essential to study its structure, creation, history, and significance, but it is also necessary to understand its past and current state as well as projected changes in the future.
In the case of old paintings, this requires being able to correlate macroscopic observations with its chemical make-up at the microscopic level.
