This project aims to explore the molecular mechanisms of centriolar satellite biogenesis and function, which are crucial for cellular responses to stress. By employing advanced imaging and genome-editing techniques, it seeks to enhance understanding of these cellular structures.
The centrosome is the major microtubule-organizing centre of a cell.
It also serves as the base for the primary cilium, an antenna-like structure that allows cells to respond to external stimuli.
Around the centrosome lie a number of electron dense cytoplasmic granules, termed centriolar satellites.
These are involved in protein trafficking and are crucial for normal centrosome and cilium assembly and function.
However, little is known about satellite composition, biogenesis or regulation.
