This project investigates the historical roots of global inequality by analyzing how environmental factors influenced the emergence of complex social hierarchies. It combines new global data on ancient climates, migrations, and societies to explore their impact on economic development over time.
The aim of this project is to understand the historical roots of global inequality.
Specifically, it will address two questions:
Why did some regions experience an early start in the development of complex hierarchies?
