This research compares the memories of Romani communities in Belarus and Lithuania regarding their experiences during World War II. It explores how socio-political contexts influence their collective memory and identity, particularly in relation to persecution and survival.
The Romani communities of Belarus and Lithuania experienced World War II and the Nazi persecution in similar ways, such as deportations for forced labour, mass murder in the countryside and survival in Soviet partisan units.
