This project explores the interconnectedness of Roman ports and their role in facilitating trade and economic relationships across the Mediterranean. By examining archaeological and historical data, it aims to understand the organization and significance of these port systems during the Roman Empire.
Rome was connected to its Mediterranean provinces by commercial routes articulated through networks of ports acting as poly-functional nodes.
Ships, people and goods moved along these, drawing the micro-regions of the Mediterranean into closer economic and commercial relationships with the City.
