This project investigates the role of genetic diversity in RNA viruses, particularly focusing on the poliovirus and Coxsackie B3 virus. By altering the fidelity of viral RNA polymerases, it aims to understand how genetic variation affects viral infectivity and pathogenicity.
RNA viruses have the highest mutation frequencies in nature, which are in large part attributed to the low fidelity of their viral RNA-dependent RNA polymerases (RdRp).
