This project investigates non-DNA mediated inheritance in C. elegans nematodes, focusing on how environmental responses can be passed to offspring through small RNA molecules. It aims to uncover the mechanisms behind this inheritance and its implications for survival and adaptation.
Little is known about non-DNA mediated transgenerational inheritance of parental responses.
If inheritance of non-genetic materials is prevalent, it could challenge our conceptions regarding the rules and limits of heredity.
We are in particularly intrigued by the possibility that the nervous system can produce heritable changes.
