ReCreate aims to promote the reuse of concrete by deconstructing precast components from condemned buildings. The project seeks to demonstrate effective methods for preserving the value of materials, thereby reducing energy consumption and carbon emissions in construction.
Concrete is the most significant construction material and C&D waste stream globally and in the EU.
ReCreate aims at closing the loop for concrete at the highest level of utilization by demonstrating the deconstruction and reuse of precast structural components, which retains the secondary material at its highest value.
Compared to virgin production, aggregate recycling and backfilling, reusing can reduce energy consumption and carbon footprint by 93-98%.
