The project develops an innovative algorithm to monitor root zone soil moisture at the field scale using remote sensing data. This technology aims to enhance irrigation management in agriculture, particularly in Mediterranean regions, by providing timely information on crop water needs to improve water use efficiency.
Sustainable water use is a growing concern in Europe.
Nowadays, agriculture is an important pressure on water resources especially in Mediterranean countries where irrigation can represent up to 80% of the consumptive uses of water.
