This research aims to define forest degradation within the context of carbon emissions reduction projects. It will develop a methodology to assess forest degradation, enhancing the effectiveness of global carbon trading initiatives aimed at reducing emissions from deforestation.
The global C emissions trading system currently focuses on reducing deforestation and forest degradation.
Under the UN-REDD+ program, donor countries can compensate for some of their C emissions by implementing projects that will reduce C emissions by a known amount in developing countries.
