This project focuses on the chemistry of bis-allenes and their reactions with nucleophiles, particularly using platinum catalysts. It aims to elucidate the coordination mechanisms involved and explore the synthesis of new complex structures with potential biological activity.
For some time allenes were considered simple curiosities because of their apparent unstable nature.
However, in the last few years the chemistry of allenes has been extensively developed since they have shown an interesting reactivity and selectivity affording complex structures in an atom economic manner.
Bis-allenes have recently appeared as useful building blocks for the synthesis of carbo- and heterocycles.
