This project focuses on developing new treatments for trichomoniasis, a common sexually transmitted infection caused by a parasite. It aims to characterize the proteasome enzyme in the parasite and design inhibitors to combat antibiotic resistance.
Trichomoniasis, caused by the protozoan parasite Trichomonas spp., is the most common, non-viral, sexually transmitted infection in the world.
Only two closely related antibiotic drugs are approved for its treatment.
