This project investigates how antibiotic resistance genes are transferred among bacteria via temperate bacteriophages. By studying the evolution of these prophages in E. coli, the research aims to understand the costs and benefits of carrying antibiotic resistance in different environments.
In the European Union, 25,000 deaths per year are caused by multidrug resistant bacteria.
