POPLAIR aims to improve the use of lichens as biomonitors for air pollution, specifically polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons. The project seeks to establish methods for translating lichen data into useful information for environmental assessments.
Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) are a large group of persistent organic pollutants (POPs), which have received increased attention in recent decades in air pollution studies due to their carcinogenicity and mutagenicity.
