This project analyzes the evolution of international investment agreements and their impact on foreign direct investment. It seeks to understand why multilateral investment frameworks have failed while bilateral agreements have proliferated, focusing on the role of developed countries in shaping these agreements.
Since the early 1990s, the number of international investment agreements, bilateral investment treaties, and trade agreements with clauses on foreign direct investment (FDI) has grown exponentially.
